5 Things You Didn’t Know About Ogle Brothers General Store
If you have been to our store, you probably learned a little bit about us while you were here. But how much do you really know? We want to share some facts about our store that you may not know so you can learn a little more about us! Check out these 5 things you didn’t know about Ogle Brothers General Store:
1. The pottery is made in house.
One thing you may not know about us is all of the handmade pottery you see on display is actually made in the store! Right next to the pottery and kitchen section, you will see the pottery studio. You might even see some of our potters working on the wheel to create more items or glazing items they have already made. The studio is open, so you can actually speak with the potters if you have any questions or want to learn a little more about what they do. Some of the handmade pieces you will find include mugs, pie plates, and bacon cookers.
2. You can sample food products.
At Ogle Brothers General Store, you can actually sample some of our dips, pickles, teas, or soup mixes. We will make up some of our soups or dips throughout the day so visitors can try some before they buy it. You can sometimes try the salsas or pickled items as well. If there’s a tea you would like to sample before deciding to purchase, we have a hot water station where you can make a cup and try it. You’ll love being able to sample some of our most popular food items!
3. Many products are locally made.
You already learned that the pottery in Ogle Brothers General Store is made by in-house potters, but did you know many of our other products are also locally made? We have an entire display of hand poured soy wax candles in a variety of scents, with many of them being named after places in the Smoky Mountains. There are also soap bars, lotions, home decor, and much more made by local artists and craftsmen you’ll want to check out!
4. We keep the spirit of the Ogle family alive.
Something else you may not know about our store is it was opened to keep the legacy of the Ogle family alive and well. Since 1925, there have been multiple generations of Ogle brothers who have lived, worked, and played on the land at Five Oaks. The family is still involved in Sevier County to this day, but our store is dedicated to keeping their traditions and family values alive. You can walk around the store and see some signage about the Ogles to learn even more about this influential family.
5. You can buy gifts online.
If you’ve visited us in person, you probably had a great time browsing through the Smoky Mountain themed apparel, handmade pottery, and candy counter. But did you know you can enjoy our store without stepping foot in the Smokies? While we want you to come say hello when you’re in town, you can always purchase specialty gifts from our online store!
