All About the History of the Ogle Brothers Family
So you love visiting Ogle Brothers General Store when you’re on vacation in the Smoky Mountains. But how much do you really know about us? Well, there’s plenty to learn, and we want to share it with you! Keep reading to learn all about the history of the Ogle brothers family.
Back to the Beginning
Back before tourism boomed in this area, the land was mostly used for agriculture. The river made the area plentiful for several different kinds of crops, and that’s why the Ogle family came to the area. Dr. John W. Ogle and his wife, Blanche, purchased 128 acres in Sevierville to continue to build their livelihood. After planting oak trees in the front yard, their home fondly became known as the Five Oaks Farm.
More About the Original Ogles
Dr. Ogle was a medical doctor that traveled by horseback to get to his patients. Blanche was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother. They raised their family of 6 in their farmhouse, and it actually is still standing today across the Parkway in front of the Tanger Outlets.
The whole Ogle family was known as being hospitable, and they were extremely active in the community. At home, they raised livestock, including Tennessee Walking Horses, and fished in the rivers nearby. They also hosted people as they came through town, never knowing a stranger. People have noted that the Ogles were warm and welcoming, and we strive to continue their legacy today.
The Ogle Brothers Today
Today, the Ogles are still renowned in their own right in the area. The family property is still with the Ogle brothers, but it’s no longer used for raising livestock or growing crops. You’ll find a beautiful lodge where guests will find warmth and comfort while they’re in town. Five Oaks Farm Kitchen continues to serve food in honor of Blanche and her love for serving people who came to her home. And, of course, Ogle Brothers General Store continues the legacy of the family by telling their story.
